All the ways bring to God?
By Davi Lago - Brazilian Baptist Pastor
In
modernity religions are frequently considered the same thing. People are
looking the least common denominator of religion with the intention of avoid
discord and conflicts. It ´s said that the external trappings religious belief and practice vary from culture to culture, but their targets are in
essence the same. Thus, no religion can claim exclusive validity.
Much is
said about the analogy of the mountain: God is on mountain´s top and man is on
it base. The religion´s history it´s the report of human effort to move from
base to peak in order to achieve communion with God. The mountain has many
roads. Some of them bring almost straight to the top. Others surround the same
in circles, but eventually reach the top. Thus, all religious roads lead to
God.
The
matter with this idea is the fact that there are irreconcilable doctrines among
religions. According to R.C. Sproul, there´s only two ways to maintain an equal
validity to all religions: One of them is to ignore the contradictions and move
towards irrationalism; the other, is to put these contradictions in terms of
secondary trifles. This last approach involves a process of reductionism. In
other words, it seeks only what religions has of equal. However, both solutions
confront the clear biblical teaching that Jesus alone can save. Walk against
the reason is unbiblical, as far as to state that all religions are equal. Both
alternatives bring a false peace. (Jeremiah 8:11)
There´s
only a way to God: Jesus Christ (John 14.6). Only He died for our sins. Moses
was the mediator of law, Muhammad used
the sword, Buddha offered personal advices, Confucius spoke wise words, but
none of these mans was qualified to offer expiation for the sins of the world.
